Rosana Cuellar is a Mexican filmmaker based in Hamburg known for her visually compelling style of crafting films. Her metaphoric narrative pokes at the dark matter of dreams and nightmares. The estrangement of the individual and the absurd are central to her work. She portrays them in her pieces by juxtaposing beauty and hallucination, to create an immersive and unsettling experience. Rosana's journey in film began in Mexico under the tutelage of Prof. Jorge Bolado. Curious to delve deeper into the artistic intricacies of film, she moved to Germany, where she continued her studies at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, studying under the mentorship of Professors Wim Wenders and Robert Bramkamp. Her distinctive, "weird in a good way" approach has garnered attention at prestigious film festivals. Notably, her short film "A Woman Named Yssabeau" was selected for the Berlinale Short-Film Competition. "Cronología" was featured in the Next Generation Role of German Films Rosana developed her script for her first major project “Popping the Question" with a grant from the Wim Wenders Foundation and the NRW Film Foundation. “Popping the Question" is a historical surrealist series about two women that move to to the city and are ultimately devoured -one of them quite literally- by a society shaped by unbridled capitalism.
